CADETS GAIN INSIGHT INTO RAF FLYINGDALES

Yesterday ten cadets from 36 Squadron ATC and 1932 Blackhall Squadron ATC accompanied by Flt Lt Foster, APO Stridiron and Sqd Ldr rtd Chris Miller, visited RAF Flyingdales for an insightful visit into its mission and operations. Cadets and staff were given a guided tour of the main operational areas of the base. RAF Fylingdales in North Yorkshire provides a continuous ballistic missile early warning service to the UK and US Governments, ensuring a surprise missile attack cannot succeed. As a key part of the Allied Space Surveillance Network, the Unit also monitors objects in space that can easily resemble incoming missiles when re-entering the atmosphere. Information for this post was taken from the Royal Air Force public website and photograph was taken from a copyright free source as electronic communication devices were not permitted into operational areas.
